August 2019 Newsletter

Hi everyone,

I hope you’re enjoying the sunny weather and still managing to WOD in the heat! August is the month of The CrossFit Games. As most of you will be aware, the Sanctioned Events and The Open (that we took part in in March) determine who will compete at the Games. So if you can watch some of it, I’m sure you will love seeing the fittest people in CrossFit battle it out to be crowned The Fittest On Earth! The events are being shown on YouTube - they started on Thursday and will finish tomorrow (Sunday)!

Thank you to all the members that attended the annual Awards night this month! It’s always a good night and it was great that so many people attended! And well done to the winners!

Competitions and achievements

Well done to the CrossFit Cheltenham teams that competed at Tribal Clash down in Devon a few weeks ago! Tribal Clash is always gruelling so they were all pretty emotional after a very challenging weekend, and have already got places for next year because they loved it so much!

Tribal 2019.jpg

A few members took part in the Cyprus qualifiers throughout July and have managed to secure themselves a place at the final in October! Owner Steve Bunn qualified 2nd in the 40-44 category and is ready to battle it out for the win! Simon Jennings qualified for the Male Rx’d category, and Abie Jeffries, Holly Gardner and Laura Shelley qualified for the Female Scaled category. Well done to those that qualified and those that just missed the cut!

Box news

Vicky Tustin, Rachel Taylor and Grace Hawken have started taking classes now and we have received some really amazing feedback about them. Well done girls!

Congratulations to Gordon Anderson and Kristy Worgan, and Andy Taylor and Kirsty Glover on getting engaged. There must be something in the water at the box as both of these couples met at CrossFit Cheltenham!

We have had more registrations for the Mixed Pairs Throwdown in three weeks time and have now got just 11 spaces left. I am so happy that there are 10 CrossFit Cheltenham teams entered. If you’re not competing, please come down and support the members that are - I’m sure there will be some good battles going on and it will be fun to watch! Hi everyone,

Firstly, well done to everyone that competed in the recent Fatloss Challenge. We had 25 members taking part and they all smashed it and got some fantastic results!

Competitions and achievements

Well done to the CrossFit Cheltenham teams that have competed in the last few weeks. Sophia Maynell and Scott Drain entered the Superhuman Games in Bristol as individuals, and Helena Donald and Caroline Smialek entered the Pairs competition there too and actually came third in the Masters division!

Caroline and Helena Superhuman.jpg

We also had some teams competing at Oxford Fitfest a couple of weeks ago. Well done Lofty Sheer, Paul Gunter, Steve Barnes, James Stickland, Will Bates, John Williams, Hannah Gale, Laura Gunter and Sian Evans. It sounds like you had a great time with some challenging workouts!

group comp.jpg

Box news

Last month we said goodbye to coach Hannah Gale. Han has moved to London with her husband because of his new job, and has secured herself a position at a CrossFit box there. We all wish you the best of luck Han. You’ll always have a home here at CrossFit Cheltenham!

Han Devon.jpg

For those of you that are wondering where coach Gianni has gone - he’s not left us, he’s just on a five week holiday in America. He’s visiting lots of different boxes over there too!

You may have also noticed a change to some of the classes. Vicky Tustin, Rachel Taylor and Grace Hawken are helping to coach for a couple of months before becoming qualified CrossFit coaches with a view to start taking their own classes in September.

The seniors 60+ classes are going well but we could do with a few more people getting involved. Most of the time, people are worried that CrossFit will be too hard for them so don’t want to give it a try. If you have anyone that could be persuaded, ask them to come along to the class on a Monday at 10:45. The workouts are a bit easier and are quite scaled, so there is nothing to worry about!

53362455_2551134358248458_3408393815977885696_n.jpg

Don’t forget you can bring a friend along to any class as their free taster session! Just let us know which class they will be coming to so that we can register them for it. We have got a great start up offer on at the minute too!

Congratulations to two CrossFit Cheltenham couples. Coach Matt Parkinson and our Osteopath Phoebe (was Bolton), who actually met at CrossFit Cheltenham!, and members Istvan Gerstenmayer and Chloe (was Merris) both got married in the last few weeks! Congratulations to two lovely couples!
