Meet Sofia!

How long have you been with us at CrossFit Cheltenham? It’s my one year anniversary… cute!

What was it that made you decide to give CrossFit a try? It was something different and something I hadn’t tried previously. It was the beginning of a new year and I wanted to try something new. I then came across the crossfit taster sessions.

What is your favourite thing about CrossFit Cheltenham? The workouts are really sociable which makes it way more fun. It’s a great way to keep motivated with new friends.

Who inspires you at CrossFit Cheltenham? The coaches are great. Steve is an inspirational lead and it’s great that another female coach has joined, Hannah is so supportive.

What time of day do you prefer to train? 6pm always. Not a fan of working out early. Weekends are a good time to work out though if I’ve had a busy week and therefore I can catch up on sessions.

What else do you get up to outside of the gym? I work in HR for the NHS and I am currently studying a post grad at University of Gloucestershire so I am busy busy. I like to draw also but unfortunately my art work is not good enough for public viewing!

What is your favourite CrossFit WOD? I love variety in a WOD. So the ‘filthy fifty’ is great. I like to benchmark myself against how I last did.

What is your least favourite WOD? Anything with running or burpees…. They are really tough!

Of all the many different CrossFit disciplines, which one do you excel in? The clean and split jerk… This is a move I am able to lift my heaviest of weights. I get excited when it’s on the board for the WOD.

If you could create your own WOD, what would it be? The ‘Sofia’ – Complete as many reps as possible in 20 minutes of:

- Split jerks x 5

- Over the box burpees x 10

- Front squats x 15 -

Inch worm push ups x 20 -

Air squats x 25

What is your favourite WODing jam? Drake…. All day every day. Taylor Swift’s new stuff is great for working out though, it needs to be played more (hint hint).

What’s your favourite food? CHIPS

What’s your ultimate ‘cheat’ meal? Veggie burger and CHIPS (I eat like an athlete most of the time I promise)

What’s your favourite tipple? White Zinfandel Rose. However, now I’m getting older, I’m enjoying a G&T.

What’s your favourite memory at CrossFit Cheltenham so far? The open. I had joined for a month and thought it was crazy to enter. I entered on the last day through coach motivation and I achieved goals I would never have thought were possible. Surprisingly I didn’t come last. I’m entering again this year!

Do you have any funny stories of your time at CrossFit Cheltenham? My funniest crossfit story is when we had to do the wheelbarrow as a warm up. Amy Broomhall was responsible for holding my legs and decided to drop me. At the time, it was not amusing. My knees really hurt. However, luckily we have remained friends. I didn’t think I was that big, perhaps I should up my weekly training sessions….

Tell us a fun fact about you! I enjoy reality TV way more than I should. Kimmy K is fabulous.

What are your goals and aspirations for the next year? 2018. It’s the year of the abs.

My motto is… Don’t wish for another girl’s body. Want your body, but leaner, stronger and healthier.
