Meet Craig!

How long have you been with us at CrossFit Cheltenham? Just over a year and a half.

What do you do outside of the box? I'm normally quite happy to give anything a go but mostly I enjoy spending time with my wife and kids.

What was it that made you decide to give CrossFit a try? Jon Pickstock, he tends to try something for five minutes and give up. Hence him getting the nickname FLASH. However, when he started xfit he was hooked. I thought this must be good. And decided I would give it a go expecting to give up in about a week or so but absolutely loved it.. and here I am.

What is your favourite thing about CrossFit Cheltenham? I have met some really interesting people and made some good friends. I always know whenever I turn up I'm going to work hard and have a laugh.. what more could you ask for?

Who inspires you at CrossFit Cheltenham? Max Pioli really suprised me during the half marathon.. he smashed it. To get as fit as him, Steve Ryan and Chris Mills would be something.

What time of day do you prefer to train? I'm easy.. I'll go any time I'm free. You always know there will be a good group and a solid coach at any time.

What is your favourite CrossFit WOD? I like the gassy ones - something that I'm really going to have to dig in for.. I did Kalsu the other day, finished it, nearly collapsed, but felt so good for finishing it.

What is your least favourite WOD? Anything with pull ups or muscle ups in it.. I still have not got one AND IT DRIVES ME UP THE WALL.

Of all the many different CrossFit disciplines, which one do you excel in? I wouldn't say I excel but I enjoy the Clean and am getting better at double unders. (I also fancied myself as a rower till I saw some of the scores recently)...

If you could create your own WOD, what would it be? Not really sure, but it would need to be long and gassy, preferably in pairs so you can really 'encourage' your partner. (Didn't mention it in the discipline list but I do love a sled pull).

What is your favourite WODing jam? I keep asking Will Bates for some disco but that has not happened - one day Will.. one day.
We did a warm up once, burpees to 'Roxanne' which was really good fun..

What’s your favourite food? Chilli beef burrito - awesome.

What’s your ultimate ‘cheat’ meal? Roast Lamb then apple crumble (although always have a quandry, custard or ice cream).

What’s your favourite tipple? Spiced Rum and coke....

What’s your favourite memory at CrossFit Cheltenham so far? This year has been quite tough for my family with my daughter being ill and needing an operation. So many members have given me encouragement and asked how we are all doing. I attempted the half marathon to raise some money for a charity that helped us. People at the box were so generous and even hung around waiting to cheer me on en route. Thanks to all of you...

Do you have any funny stories of your time at CrossFit Cheltenham? My first day I attempted a Handstand and just ended up in a heap on the floor the second time I completely forgot to put my hands out and dived into the wall?!?! Chris Miley and the coach couldn't stop laughing... Oh and apparently it's not correct etiquette to 'dance/conduct' teams when judging a throwdown. (I'll leave it at that).

What are your goals and aspirations for the next year? That elusive Pull up. I also would like to have a go in a throwdown next year.

How has CrossFit improved you or your life? I feel alot stronger and fitter. I run around with the kids more and feel alot better in myself.

Anything else you would like to add? Crossfit Chelt, just keep doing what you’re doing, it really works!

My motto is… Keep going, don't finish a Wod thinking you could have done better. (Just made that up).
