How long have you been with us at CrossFit Cheltenham? I think about 5/6 years now???

What was it that made you decide to give CrossFit a try? I was tired of just lifting weights at the gym with no other purpose but just lifting more weight and getting bigger, it seemed pointless after a while (although I have a short attention span anyway). I was also very unfit, reluctant to do any kind of cardio and would be regularly out done by friends who played football or rugby outside the gym, a friend of mine went down and started at CrossFit Cheltenham so I thought I’d give it a try. Within 6 months I was on an unlimited membership and had cancelled my old gym membership, I was hooked!

What is your favourite thing about CrossFit Cheltenham? The People… It’s such a friendly environment to train. Everyone is so scared of their first CrossFit session and there’s really no reason to be, everyone is so lovely and so welcoming. A standard “hero” gym is much more intimidating, no-one talks, you just get evils in all those god damn mirrors…

Who inspires you at CrossFit Cheltenham? Ha, almost everyone… I train regularly but my diet and lifestyle holds me back… The dedication of lots of people at the Box, how “in-check” their diets are and their consistency of training is something I need to learn…2018 is going to be my year, watch this space…

What time of day do you prefer to train? 7am

What else do you get up to outside of the gym? I have another gym that I go to as I live about 40 minutes away from the box #dedication, when I work late shifts I go there to do some accessory and mobility work. I also like to Run with my Husky he gives me a good workout and Cycle on my rest days…

What is your favourite CrossFit WOD? Favourite one? Is that a thing? They all hurt so much… I quite like Murph, that’s always fun but also the Team WODS anything with a rest whilst someone else is working and I’m able to perform at my best and hit it hardest knowing I’ve got some rest coming up…

What is your least favourite WOD? Open 14.5 that’s some kind of hell… 21-18-15-12-9-6-3 reps of: Thrusters, 42.5kg & Barbell Burpees… I vowed I’d never do it again and I never have…

Of all the many different CrossFit disciplines, which one do you excel in? I would say I’m a Jack of All Trades rather than a Master of Any… I really enjoy the Gymnastic work, I’m pretty good at being upside down… Burpees I love for some reason, some of you may have seen my 1000 I did a while ago (never again) 1hr 59m 48s of my life I’m never getting back but I weirdly enjoyed it…

If you could create your own WOD, what would it be? There’s so much choice here but right now I’d go for a 30min AMRAP: 30ft HSWalk, 30 Double Unders, 30 Kettlebell Snatches, 30 Box Jumps, 30 Pull Ups, 3 Rope Climbs… That would be a good workout, just what I needed after the Christmas Feed….

What is your favourite WODing jam? Either Felix Navidad nothing beats that tune in December at the Box or Skrillex ft Damien Marley – Make it Bun Dem always goes well with a tasty workout…

What’s your favourite food? Any combination of Sugar and Starch…. is Fresh Baked Cookies a food? No? Well those regardless….

What’s your ultimate ‘cheat’ meal? Chinese Takeaway… drooling Yung Chow Fried Rice, Crispy Shredded Chilli Beef, Kung Po Chicken, Chilli & Garlic Ribs and Crispy Seaweed… BOOM!

What’s your favourite tipple? Cîroc Vodka on ice with a dash of Diet Coke….

What’s your favourite memory at CrossFit Cheltenham so far? Me and Master Bates put together the first of the Vodathalon Socials a little while ago… we had an Assault Course, An Octopus, Drinks, Nibbles, A Twerking Contest, Loads of great people, Trophy’s, Forfeits, Drinking Games and a full Box of Dutty Winer’s (video evidence available) to R Kelly’s Bump n Grind… that night got out of hand quickly!!!

Do you have any funny stories of your time at CrossFit Cheltenham? I broke my thumb in my taster class… that was pretty funny… I still came back a couple of days later, I was hooked from day one, despite the injury!

Tell us a fun fact about you! I’m the Box’s resident DJ… if you ever need some workout playlists give me a shout!

What are your goals and aspirations for the next year? 2018 is to be my fittest year yet, I have a clear goal and fresh structure and planning to my diet which for me is my big issue… I’ve had 29 years of enjoying eating garbage, I’m putting it all to one side for a while….

My motto is… Life is a series of mistakes held together by the corrections we make, never worry about the things we can’t change and ensure you enjoy everything you CHOOSE to do…
